Nothing against you, everything against the racist shit you're spewing.
So A. posted a thing about Miss Universe national costumes and I made the mistake of looking up the 2011 contestants.
I have no idea what Miss Canada Chelsae Durocher’s background is nor does a quick google search yield anything, and I’m certainly not an expert on cultural appropriation or indigenous struggles but… a war bonnet? On a woman? In a beauty pageant? As a “National Costume”? “National”? “Costume”?
Really?

I have not had enough coffee to deal with this.

This is a lot of things…but none of what it’s tagged.

The actual text:
“i am wearing a headdress because i am inspired by things native americans wear. i respect them more than anything. in no way am i trying to offend your heritage or ancestors or you so if you think i am, keep scrolling because i am literally laughing on the floor because of the stupid comments on this.”

lol okay okay okay. chill the fuck out. I can’t tag, or i’m sorry, it is ‘inappropriate’ for me to tag #native american, although that is the culture that the “war bonnet” derived from? saying that all of those things are hurtful is like saying that wearing camouflage print is hurtful to soldiers in America. lol again, chill out man.
obviously they’re not a fashion statement. but I think they are interesting, and look nice. it’s not a “terrible stereotypical caricature”. google native american and i guarantee you’ll see pictures of native americans wearing such things. dear tumblr user, you seriously have too much time on your hands. i understand wanting to end ignorance, but choose a better example.
I like that the point just sails right over your head. You’re still wrong tho.

Why would someone even say that? I would just slap someone.

Hello Tumblr world! Happy 2012!
I had my first photo shoot of 2012 yesterday and it couldn’t of been more fun!! My amazing mother got me the most beautiful Native American headdress for Christmas and since then I had been dying to take photos! Since the weather has been anything but winter-like here in New England, I decided to take advantage of the lovely sun. My gorgeous friends Alessandra and Lauren (owner of Lauren Matteo Photography - www.laurenmatteophotography.com) agreed to be my models yesterday. We had a ton of laughs, froze a little, but in the end it was totally worth it! - Hope you all enjoy the photos and Happy New Year!! ^_^
Glad you had a nice holiday.
Not glad you posted these pictures. Or that you got a headdress for Christmas.
Not okay.
